People can’t help responding to rhythm. Drumming has been used for thousands of years to motivate and unite. The pulse of a percussion soundtrack has been heard in all kinds of situations, from celebrations to the battle field! And anybody can take part it’s literally as easy as counting 1, 2, 3.
But what has all this got to do with teamwork?
In fact it is a superb metaphor. So much so, that our workshops are regularly used to demonstrate and reinforce principles like Myers Briggs, and as part of advanced management development courses.
Teamwork is about a group of people working together to achieve success, each playing their part. Rhythmicity is using a mix of different instruments - drums, cowbells, woodblocks, maracas, tambourines, triangles, and others - to make really exciting and enjoyable music together.
In one of our workshops your team will quickly learn to produce a fantastic sound from the ‘noise’ these instruments make in unskilled, uncoordinated hands. It’s all done in a lively, entertaining and humorous style.

In a Rhythmicity workshop we take an eclectic mix of percussion instruments and use them to create an exciting piece of music. It is an enjoyable way to demonstrate and reinforce the strength and effectiveness of real teamwork.
Participants don’t need any musical experience to be fully involved as we lead them through an experience that is unfamiliar and outside their usual comfort zone.
The Djembe is the native drum of West Africa. Traditionally its earthy, primal sound is used to energise, motivate and celebrate. Getting a loud noise out of one of these things is easy. Turning it into an impressive musical sound with controlled intertwining rhythms takes skill and, most importantly, teamwork and coordination.
This activity uses a variety of household items such as bins, buckets, hub caps, kitchen pans and containers, to make the sounds. A fun way to make music that achieves surprisingly good results.
These instruments are simple tuned tubes that (not surprisingly) boom when you whack ‘em. They are used to play tunes or to accompany singing. A gentler, quieter alternative to the full-on drumming events.
Using the simplest playing technique, these instruments produce surprisingly complex and beautiful music.
The Rio Carnival is synonymous with exotic excitement, famous for its rhythmic soundtrack and magical processions. The Samba sound is unmistakeable, but producing something with a recognisable quality from a mixture of drums, cowbells, maracas, tambourines and other instruments takes teamwork.
In our workshop participants with no musical ability at all are shown how to produce the Samba beat. It works best with larger groups that can be split into teams in order to perform a Carnival Procession to each other.
